First let me tell you a little about this amazing woman. Smart as a whip, funny as can be, headstrong and just an all around great person. On February 25th of this year she suffered a life altering medical event that has kept her from being able to live her life like she did only weeks before. She was a paramedic with Charleston County EMS, a strong woman that spent her nights on an ambulance taking care of others, a competitive athlete and a mom to a 2 1/2 year old beautiful little girl named Madelyn Avery.

What Amanda thought was just a very bad headache, ended up being a carotid dissection. Several days after being diagnosed with the carotid dissection, this 33 year old mom was told the most devastating news, she had suffered a stroke. Not only had a stroke, but that there was nothing they could do. Having a medical background she new how bad this was. Her carotid artery was 100% occluded, the artery had collapsed and the risk to fix it outweighed the benefit.

This event in her life has kept her from being able to return to work. She is not suppose to lift anything over 10 lbs and most of all is no longer allowed to run. One of the things in her life that she used as her outlet. She is determined to run again, it may take her a while to get back to it but she will.
